I picked up A Short History of Ethics recently, hoping to get a deeper and fuller stica of ethical debates in the present, by understanding the history behind it all. This is okay if the reader already understands the thinker in question. MacIntyre illustrates the relevance of philosophical queries on moral concepts enabling the reader to understand the importance of a historical account of ethics. He tried to summarize Augustine and Aquinas in two paragraphs!

Inhe went to the United States where he has taught at Xe, Boston, and Vanderbilt universities. While he does do this to a degree, that is not the point of the book.
To find an alternative, he looks to ancient Greece and especially to Aristotle’s concept of virtue. It’s short, but it’s quite cumbersome at moments.
